The Search Committee has completed the church profile and Office of Transitional Ministry documents.   Beginning in January the Committee will receive and review names  from the national church directory, the Diocese of Louisiana, as well as those already coming in from parishioners. (You can submit a nomination for consideration, here.) All names submitted by parishioners must be sent to the Diocesan office for clearance.

The timeline for calling a new rector has not been set. It is the hope of the committee that we will find several qualified candidates and will be able to complete the process in the spring. We continue to ask for your prayers as we pursue the serious work of finding the next rector for our church.

The Search Committee is in the final stages of completing our St. James Profile Book to introduce our parish to potential rector candidates. The goal is a completed publication in January 2018. The work on this profile has revealed to the committee the amazing and wonderful work our St. James family does within and outside our church.

The following are just a few facts and figures about St. James: Average Sunday attendance at worship services is about 300; over 100 adults regularly participate in various religious education opportunities; our Day School serves nearly 300 students in PreK-3 through grade five.

In 2016, St. James reported 246 Sunday Eucharists with an additional 249 weekday Eucharists. The parish celebrated 18 marriages and 24 burials during this same period. Twenty-six individuals were baptized in the parish, including two candidates older than 16 years of age.  A total of 15 individuals were confirmed and eight were received into the Episcopal Church. Total operating revenues in 2016 were $1,363,991 with the majority of these funds generated from the signed pledges of 367 church members.

Our parish survey revealed some profound and inspiring quotes from parishioners, including, “As the song goes: they will know we are Christians by our love — and that love includes reaching out to all people, especially those who are less fortunate and who are powerless — we have the resources and the power to make our community a better place and we need to do it.”

Your Search Committee members are humbled and awed by the love and work of our parish family. This search for a new rector for St. James is a spiritual journey for each of us on the committee and we continue to ask for your prayers as we continue our work on behalf of all our St. James family.

A Prayer for our Search

Almighty God, giver of every good gift: look graciously on your Church, and so guide the minds of those who shall choose a rector for this parish, that we may receive a faithful pastor, who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. BCP, p. 818
