St. James Episcopal Church is currently auditioning singers in all voice parts for the St. James Schola, our professional ensemble of ten singers that serves as the musical core of the larger St. James Choir.
Our repertoire is drawn primarily from the Anglican choral tradition, so singers who are comfortable with a straight-tone choral style are especially encouraged to apply. Because we prepare a large volume of music throughout the season, excellent sight-reading skills are essential.
Schola members rehearse on Wednesdays from 7:00–8:45 p.m. and sing on Sunday mornings from 9:30–11:35 a.m., along with occasional special services such as Evensong and Lessons & Carols. For graduate students or aspiring conductors, we also provide occasional opportunities to lead warm-ups, rehearse the choir, and conduct anthems or motets with our mixed professional and volunteer group.
Singers receive a high per-call fee, with a typical month consisting of 10–12 calls.
Schola members will also have the opportunity to participate in our week-long 2028 choral residency at Wells Cathedral in England, with travel expenses covered and a per diem provided.
