And Peter said to him, "Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you." Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep."-- John 21:17
As an official distribution point in the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank system, our Food Pantry distributes grocery bags two times per month to those in need in the 70802 zip code area.
The first step to getting help is to contact the United Way 2-1-1 at 225-923-2114.
United Way 2-1-1 is an information and referral telephone service maintained by the Baton Rouge Crisis Intervention Center. Trained counselors assist callers by linking them to agencies in their community that can fulfill their particular need.
Counselors are on duty Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. United Way 2-1-1 can also be reached by dialing toll free at (877) 923-2114.
The St. James Food Pantry is in need of volunteers to help manage and distribute grocery bags twice monthly. This is an easy way to contribute to the wellbeing of those in need in our community as screened clients are distributed a bag of groceries at one of the two distributions held per month.
First and third Wednesday Opportunities
Volunteers begin filling bags at 7:30 a.m. on the distribution days and the distribution is finished by 9:00 a.m.
Tuesday before Distribution Wednesdays
Volunteers are needed to help set up the bagging assembly line between 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. The ability to move and rearrange bags and boxes of food is necessary.
Check our church calendar here to confirm operation and volunteer hours. Your help of any amount of time during our needed periods is welcome! Come on down to the Ministries Center during the times needed, or email Food Pantry leader Allen Paterson for more information.
