Who was the historical Jesus, and how do we know about him? Over several Sundays, we’ll explore the earliest Christian portraits of Jesus and try to determine what kinds of historical assertions we can make about him. We’ll begin by considering the “literary genre” of ancient gospels and their historical context before moving into a focused discussion of the four New Testament goals. We’ll conclude by attempting to put together our own portrait of the historical Jesus as he lived in first-century Palestine in light of everything we’ll have learned about the gospels. All sessions will meet in Coleman Hall at 9:15 a.m. This series will be led by Dr. Bradley Storin, Associate Professor of Religious Studies at LSU.
