Family Ministries

St. James recognizes the home as a primary place of faith formation and seeks to support spiritual growth within the family. Family Ministries cultivates curriculum, worship, and fellowship opportunities that allow children, youth, and families to discover and grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and share God’s love with others. The success of Family Ministries is made possible through volunteers.

Sunday School
9:15–10:15 a.m.
Age: Pre-K–5th grade
Sunday School programming is currently offered for children pre-K–fifth grade. Curriculum is designed so that children learn about the word of God and Jesus’ love in a creative, engaging, and relational environment. Parishioners of all ages are encouraged to volunteer in this important ministry. Beginning in mid-August and running through May, Children’s Education follows the same schedule as Adult Education.

Children’s Chapel
10:30 a.m. Service
Age: 3rd grade and under
Children’s Chapel is an opportunity for younger parishioners to hear and experience the gospel in a relatable manner. Following the Collect of the Day, children gather at the back of the church before departing for a separate space, and then return in time to celebrate communion with their families.

Nursery
St. James’ smallest parishioners are encouraged to play and learn in the church Nursery while parents enjoy a distraction-free service. A staff of nine caregivers create a loving and safe environment through imaginative play, developmentally appropriate toys, and more. Nursery caregivers are CPR-certified and have completed background checks and national church safety certification and training. During the program year, nursery hours are 8:30 a.m.–noon, and 10 a.m.–noon during the summer. Special and extended hours are offered during certain Holy Days and church fellowship events. To apply, email Liz Canfield.

Family Ministry Events
In addition to regular programming, St. James offers various fellowship opportunities for families and children. Recent examples include, the Easter Egg Hunt, Back-to-School Bash and Blessing of the Backpacks, and the Feast of St. James Celebration.
