With the Annual Pledging season coming to an end in six days, we want to show how your pledge makes a difference. As we look to the future, we are hoping to increase our overall pledge total by 10% or more. This growth will help us: keep pace with rising costs, expand our ministries for youth and families, strengthen our fellowship opportunities, and deepen our care and support through pastoral ministry. Read Pat’s reflection below to discover why he makes annual pledges to St. James.

Earlier this year, I celebrated 65 years since my baptism by Parson Philip Werlein into St. James Episcopal Church and the body of Christ. The St. James family has been a major part of my life since the beginning. My children and I were raised and nurtured in this Parish and Day School family. Recently, I acquired my St. James columbarium niche, so that my earthly remains will be here from now until the Second Coming. In this life journey, I have been blessed to know so many wonderful saints of God (and of St. James), who have happily labored and contributed in the St. James portion of our Lord’s vineyard, advancing the Kingdom of God in Baton Rouge.

I marvel at the growth over the years in our Parish family, clergy and staff, our outreach, Parish activities, and beautiful downtown physical plant. We have inherited a living church that we had no hand in starting and only a small part in maintaining and growing. Our past is one of people always planning for tomorrow. Others planted the seeds and tended the new growth until it flourished, so that we and those who come after us might know God’s grace. St. James will continue to be a growing Christian community if we continue to stay focused in our mission and have faith and love in God and each other. Shawn and I believe in our St. James mission and generously give to St. James out of a sense of joy and thanksgiving for all the blessings bestowed upon us. The Brodericks invite and encourage each of you to do the same!
